Good feeling for Mölgg, trouble for Vinatzer

Almost exactly a year ago to the day, there was a shocking experience in Manfred Mölgg's career: in the giant slalom in Adelboden, the veteran twisted his knee and tore his cruciate ligament. The ski world was wondering whether the then 37-year-old would even race again. Mölgg showed his fighting spirit in the following months, was determined to come back after this serious injury and took another good step on Sunday: in Adelboden of all places, “Manni” achieved his best result of the season so far, namely a 14th place. “Today I had a good feeling for a long time, I only ran out of energy at the finish,” the Enneberger is quoted as saying on the website of the Italian Winter Sports Association. “I'm skiing well at the moment, I just lack a bit of strength and self-confidence. But we have to stay calm, keep working on ourselves and then show what we are really worth. I think we will succeed too.” Vinatzer unlucky threader In the slalom, the Azzurri's hopes currently rest on Alex Vinatzer. However, the youngster from Val Gardena is not yet unlucky in the new year: both in Zagreb and on Sunday in Adelboden, Vinatzer did not make it into the rankings due to threading. “This time I didn’t notice the threader,” explains the 21-year-old, who was only subsequently disqualified. “Such threaders are just annoying. I have to work on myself. It's not very nice to thread 2 times in a row. It's a shame, but I still have to look forward and find the feeling of Alta Badia and Madonna di Campiglio for Wengen again.
