Heavy snowfall: Super-G in Zauchensee cancelled

Heavy snowfall has stopped the ski racers, including superstar Lindsey Vonn, in Zauchensee. The Super-G on Sunday had to be cancelled, the organizers announced.

In addition to the snowfall, strong winds on the summit also caused problems, so the jury no longer considered the required safety standard to be met.

Because up to 40 centimeters of fresh snow fell overnight, the Super-G cannot be held. "That was impossible to manage. Safety comes first; we're in an Olympic season, that has top priority," said organizing committee head Michael Walchhofer.

The downhill race on the Kälberloch course on Saturday, when Vonn raced to her second victory of the season, had already been significantly shortened due to weather conditions. The Austrian skier also participated in the race. Local favorite Magdalena Egger suffers a heavy fall and was airlifted by helicopter. She suffered a torn cruciate ligament and other injuries to her right knee. Her Olympic season is over.
