Bad Wengen fall: The ski world fears for a superstar

The race in Wengen was not very old when an accident occurred on the track. A ski star who has enjoyed great success in recent years fell badly and had to be rescued by helicopter.

The Frenchman Alexis Pinturault started the race with starting number seven. He was doing well, but it wouldn't have been enough for a top time. But after the Silberhorn jump, misfortune happened: Pinturault lost control of his skis and fell heavily. So heavy that he rolled over on the runway and even had to be transported away by helicopter.

On Friday afternoon it was announced that the Frenchman had suffered a serious injury and would therefore be out for the rest of the season.

It's particularly bitter for Pinturault for a very specific reason. A few days ago his wife Romane gave birth to their daughter. Personal happiness is now accompanied by a serious setback in sporting terms. Pinturault has completed a total of 339 races in his career so far. He was on the podium 77 times, including 34 times at the top.
