Wedding after a disastrous season: Ski ace in love

The ski season has just ended, and there's some great news from Switzerland. A slalom ace has taken the plunge.

Unlucky in games, lucky in love: This saying certainly applies to Swiss skier Sandro Simonet. The slalom specialist had a difficult time on the slopes, but he's sweetening the end of the season with a special highlight. On Friday, the 29-year-old married his longtime girlfriend, Simona.

The Swiss, who has made it to the podium once in the World Cup, posted a photo of the couple against a stunning mountain backdrop. Of course, their two wolfhounds were also present on this special day, and there were many kind congratulations from the ski family.

Simonet hasn't had an easy time. In 2021, he celebrated his greatest career success, finishing third in the Chamonix slalom and claiming his first and so far only World Cup podium. But things then went south, partly due to a cruciate ligament tear. Due to a lack of results, Simonet was dropped from the Swiss team last summer, which is why he fought his way through this year on his own.

He doesn't want to give up

Although the 29-year-old made it into the top 10 three times in the European Cup, he missed his goal – a return to the World Cup. "After being really bad at the beginning of this winter, my recent performances give me hope," he recently told Look. And that's why Simonet plans to be part of the upcoming season as well. Perhaps things will be on the up again after the love boost.
