Bryce Bennett won the downhill race in Val Gardena last year. This success was enough for the American to soon become the winner of the Dolomites Val Gardena South Tyrol Ski Trophy. This special prize is awarded to the ski racer who collects the most World Cup points on the Saslong. He can not only look forward to additional prize money of 5000 euros and a short vacation in Val Gardena. A life-size wooden bust will also be made in his honor in collaboration with 3DW.

This exact bust was unveiled on Monday at Lisa's Alm directly on the Saslong by Christina Demetz (Dolomites Val Gardena) and Bryce Bennett. “Gröden is my absolute favorite race and I always look forward to coming back here weeks before. The landscape, the culture, the many nice people – they make the World Cup races something very special. And we Americans are still very fast here. Let’s hope it will be the same this year,” said Bennett, who has not yet been able to shine in the two downhill runs of the new season, finishing 45th (Lake Louise) and 26th (Beaver Creek).

It starts at 11.45 a.m., like the classic departure on Saturday. It is the highlight and conclusion of what will hopefully be another spectacular speed week at the foot of the Sassolungo.
