Prominent resignation from the German ski team

In 2018 he won the giant slalom in Beaver Creek: Now a German ski racer has retired with an emotional statement.

German ski racer Stefan Luitz is ending his career. After 15 years in the Ski World Cup, he says goodbye, the 33-year-old announced on Instagram. "It's hard to write these words. Competitive sport has shaped me – as an athlete, but also as a person," Luitz continued.

"I was able to celebrate successes I could hardly have dreamed of as a child: 10 World Cup podium finishes, including one victory, team World Championship medals, Olympic participation, and thrilling duels at the highest level."

The Swabian, who celebrated his greatest successes in the giant slalom, also repeatedly struggled with injuries throughout his career, including several cruciate ligament tears. "Moments that required more mental strength than physical strength. But that's exactly what made this journey so intense," he wrote.
