"My heart hurts more than my broken knee"

Things can happen so quickly in skiing. An up-and-coming American has now had to swallow a bitter pill.

It's not always just the big stars who show emotion. Even the seemingly smaller, lesser-known skiers often reveal a lot. Take Jimmy Krupka, for example, a 26-year-old American who wants to fight his way up the US slalom team. He has three World Cup starts to his name, but now the US boy has suffered a bitter setback.

"To be honest, my heart hurts more than my torn cruciate ligament," the technical specialist posted on Instagram a few days ago. He also posted a video showing him in slalom training, where he grabbed his knee after slipping. A little later, the diagnosis came: the cruciate ligament is torn.

"I'm depressed that my season is over. Especially because I skied slalom better than ever before (even if it wasn't visible in the races)," wrote Krupka. A few days later, he reported from his sickbed and was in a much better mood: "The comeback path begins here." Giving up is not an option.
