“My Little Star”: Matilde’s boyfriend says goodbye

Italy's sporting world is in shock after the death of Matilde Lorenzi. Now her boyfriend has said an emotional goodbye.

The death of Matilde Lorenzi has caused great consternation in the sporting world. The 19-year-old fell during giant slalom training on the Schnalstal Glacier on Monday and succumbed to his injuries shortly afterwards. The world has not only lost a great skiing talent, but also a wonderful person, a happy soul, a daughter, a sister. And last but not least, Matilde Lorenzi was also the great love of someone's life.

That someone is Federico Tomasoni. He shared Lorenzi's great passion for skiing. While she was one of the up-and-coming talents among the Alpine ski aces, the 27-year-old Tomasoni is already a world-class ski cross athlete. In 2023, he won the bronze medal in the mixed event at the World Championships.

A tragic farewell

On Instagram, Tomasoni shared some pictures that really get under your skin. In one photo, the ski crosser is holding his Matilde's hand at her hospital bed. "You are the most beautiful thing that life has given me," wrote Tomasoni. "I love you, little star."

Tomasoni also posted this photo.

Another snapshot shows the two arm in arm. The photo comes from Lorenzi's private Instagram profile and was posted just three days ago. "I want to wake up where you are," wrote the young Italian.

Tragic: Lorenzi and her boyfriend spent a short vacation on Ibiza just a few days ago. After an intensive training block (including Lorenzi spending several weeks with the team in Argentina), the two of them took a break before the start of the season. The lovers had big sporting plans for the new winter - but then tragedy struck in the Schnalstal.
