Mikaela Shiffrin reaches for the home win

Mikaela Shiffrin is on course for a triple victory. The American ski superstar holds the lead at the halfway point of the third slalom of the season. However, things could still get exciting.

The exceptional US skier posted the fastest time in the first run of her home race at the Copper Mountain ski resort (her birthplace Vail is only a 20-minute drive away), putting her in contention for her third victory in the third slalom of the season and her 104th World Cup win overall.

However, Shiffrin's lead over the competition this time is "only" 28 hundredths of a second. Switzerland's Wendy Holdener is in second place at the halfway point, making her Shiffrin's toughest rival in the second run. Austria's Katharina Liensberger, who has yet to achieve a top result in the two slaloms this season, is in third place, more than seven tenths of a second behind Shiffrin.

Only one Azzurra left.

Laura Della Mea was the only Italian to qualify for the second run, finishing in 16th place. Martina Peterlini, in her comeback race, finished outside the top 30, as did Emilia Mondinelli, Beatrice Sola, and Giorgia Colomb.

The decision in Colorado starts at 9:00 PM (live in SportNews-Ticker) in scene.
