After a serious fall: all clear for Sara Thaler

The first downhill training in Garmisch-Partenkirchen ended with a shock from South Tyrol's perspective on Thursday, as Sara Thaler had to be transported away by helicopter. Fortunately, later that evening the Italian winter sports association FISI gave the all-clear.

At just 20 years old, Sara Thaler was regularly the youngest athlete in the field of participants in this year's World Cup season. Because of this, gaining experience is her top priority, especially since many World Cup slopes are new territory for her. This includes the one in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. In extremely difficult conditions, However, the Val Gardena woman fell on Tuesday and crashed into the safety fences. She then had to be taken to the hospital by helicopter.


In an initial statement, the FISI announced that Thaler could move her arms and legs without restriction. On Tuesday evening, the association gave the all-clear. "Further examinations revealed no particular problems, but she will remain in hospital overnight for observation and will miss the two planned races."

Further training on Friday

After the speed specialist from St. Ulrich dropped out, only three South Tyroleans - Nadia and Nicol Delago as well as Vicky Bernardi - are left to start in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. There will be a downhill race in the German winter sports resort on Saturday, and the Super-G will take place the following day.
