Next 100-meter lady: Gut-Behrami goes down in skiing history

At the World Cup finals in Sun Valley, Lara Gut-Behrami once again proved why she is one of the greatest ski racers of her generation. Her latest success marks not only her 48th World Cup victory but also the milestone of 100 podium finishes.

The 33-year-old secured victory in the final run by 0,14 seconds over Italian Federica Brignone. Gut-Behrami thus joins the women's 100m podium finishes, alongside Mikaela Shiffrin with 156, Lindsey Vonn with 138, Annemarie Moser-Pröll with 114, Renate Götschl with 110, and Vreni Schneider with 101.

But that's not all: With her tenth giant slalom victory, the Swiss athlete is the first athlete to celebrate at least ten World Cup victories in three different disciplines (Super-G, Downhill, and Giant Slalom). Unlike many of her predecessors, who specialized in one or two disciplines, the Swiss athlete shines through her versatility.

Confident victory at the season finale

The Ticino native delivered an impressive performance in the first round, leaving her opponents with little chance. She beat her toughest rival, Federica Brignone, by almost half a second. Although Brignone caught up in the second round, Gut-Behrami ultimately had to admit defeat by 0,14 seconds.

Despite the narrow defeat, Brignone had cause to celebrate: With her second place, she secured the small crystal globe in the giant slalom rankings. For the Italian, it was already her third crystal globe this season, having previously won the discipline rankings in the overall World Cup and the downhill. Behind Gut-Behrami and Brignone, Sweden's Sara Hector finished third.

A winter full of success

With her latest triumph, Lara Gut-Behrami underscored her exceptional status in alpine skiing. 48 World Cup victories, 100 podium finishes, and a record that no other female skier has achieved before her. With this in mind, the current season can end with a clear conscience.
