Well: World Cup opener in Sölden without Liensberger

Liensberger changed ski brands from long-time partner Rossignol to Kästle in the summer, but the 22-year-old does not have a valid ski boot contract. Most recently, Liensberger was allowed to train with the ÖSV team on pool-compliant Rossignol material, but she ultimately didn't get permission to race in Sölden. To do this, Liensberger would have had to sign a two-year contract with Rossignol by 12.00 noon on Wednesday.

“As of 12.00 noon today, she has not submitted the necessary equipment contracts to the Austria Ski Pool. Therefore, the ÖSV cannot grant her a starting place in the World Cup giant slalom on Saturday, October 26, 2019 in Sölden,” explained ÖSV sports director Toni Giger in an association release. “As soon as the Austria Ski Pool has received the equipment contract, the ÖSV will nominate them for the upcoming World Cup races,” added Giger.

Reason unclear But it didn't work out for Sölden anymore. Liensberger would like to start with Kästle in the future and has already tested the skis from her home state extensively. But Kästle doesn't have any ski boots in its repertoire. Because all other options have also failed, the technology specialist's only option at the moment is to return to long-term partner Rossignol. The Austrian will only be taken back there on a two-year contract. According to reports, Liensberger wants a shorter contract term and also has other conditions. Door is open “I hoped that everything would be sorted out by today. But she wasn’t available for me,” explained Giger. From his point of view, the door is still open. “As soon as she signs, everything will be okay. But Sölden is finished.” Giger hopes intensely that the matter will be resolved soon. “She is a top runner, which is why we have invested above average in Kathi. We think a lot of her, she has a great future.”

Giger said he was less surprised by current events and more frustrated. “We worked hard to get this on track. And we continue to strive for them, the door is open. But she needs an equipment contract so she can race. The equipment contract is currently not in place, so she cannot drive.
