Austria's ski star: After grief comes a dream vacation

After a frustrating World Cup final, an Austrian downhill skier quickly forgot her sorrow in her holiday paradise.

She was the tragic heroine of the World Cup finals in Sun Valley. Cornelia Hütter would have had a great chance to secure her second downhill globe in the USA. Before the final race, the Austrian was only a measly 16 points behind overall World Cup winner Federica Brignone. But force majeure prevented the big showdown from happening: The final downhill race of the season had to be canceled without replacement due to bad weather.

"That hurts," Hütter said afterward, "but that's sport, that's life. If you look at certain races, it certainly could have been better in some cases. A few hundredths on my side and then we'd have already secured the points."

But the globe woes quickly disappeared, as the 32-year-old headed off on a dream vacation immediately after the World Cup final. These days, Hütter is relaxing in the Bahamas—a well-deserved break after an intense season in which she won three World Cup races.

"A change of scenery," Hütter captioned photos of her vacation paradise. Whether on a dreamy beach, stand-up paddling in the turquoise sea, or watching an idyllic sunset on the coast—the Austrian is enjoying her time on the Caribbean island to the fullest.
