Robinson leads: Hundredth crime thriller in windy Killington

Although there was a strong wind in Killington on Saturday, the giant slalom could be held in the US state of Vermont. This offered a lot of spectacle and promises excitement for the second round due to the close time intervals.

The sun was shining, the temperatures were low, and the snow surface was in perfect condition. Only the wind became a spoilsport. The half-time lead is surprisingly held by New Zealander Alice Robinson, who replaced Sara Hector, who had been leading until then, with a hussar ride. But the competition is hot on the 21-year-old's heels.

On the extremely fast course with narrow gaps between gates, Olympic champion Hector showed a sparkling clean, error-free ride. Afterwards, Marta Bassino was in the lead at every split time, but the Italian lost a lot of ground in the final part and is in 4th place at the break (+ 0,21 seconds). The Sölden winner Lara Gut-Behrami offered a true masterpiece: The Swiss caught several gusts, but kept track of things and is fully in the race, only 8 hundredths behind Robinson. The 21-year-old, who climbed her last podium over two years ago, put everything on one card and caught Hector.

Mikaela Shiffrin (+ 0,23), Federica Brignone (+ 0,48) and Valerie Grenier (+ 0,54) can also intervene in the fight for the podium. The American should start the second round with additional motivation, as she has already won the slalom in Killington five times, but never the giant slalom. Petra Vlhova's gap to 8th place is already almost a second after a slow run. The only South Tyrolean, Elisa Platino, was ranked outside the top 30. The second round in Killington begins at 19 p.m.
