Some changes: This is what the new ski season should look like

The parallel races in Lech/Zürs (on November 13th and 14th) for men and women are now scheduled to take place. In addition, a parallel team event is planned for the World Cup final in Courchevel/Meribel (France).

The Alpine Committee of the World Ski Federation FIS decided this during discussions on the calendar for the 2021/22 season. In addition, it was decided that, apart from the Olympics, no Alpine combination would be run, that after a year's break due to Corona, races were planned again in North America and that there would be two downhill runs and a slalom at the classics in Wengen and Kitzbühel. The parallel races in Lech/Zürs will also be held in the coming World Cup winter.

The new racing calendar will include 18 speed and technical races for women and men. The men's event includes 11 downhill runs, 7 super-Gs, 8 giant slaloms and 10 slaloms. For the women, 9 races are planned per discipline. The start takes place on the penultimate weekend in October in Sölden. From a local perspective, the stations Val Gardena, Alta Badia and Kronplatz are also planned for the coming World Cup winter.

Instead of the usual downhill run and another event on the Kandahar - either giant slalom or super-G - there are two slaloms in Garmisch. These are planned at Gudiberg, where elite races last took place at the 2011 World Cup. The slalom aces have not been to Garmisch since then.

The reason for the changes to the calendar that have been planned for some time is the Olympics in Beijing: the competitions there begin with men's speed events, which means they no longer run any races on the last weekend before the Winter Games.

The calendar is not yet fixed. It still has to be approved by the FIS Council on June 4th. Here go to the provisional race calendar.
