Mikaela Shiffrin's season ended on a high note, as she achieved her 101st World Cup victory at the finals in Sun Valley. Although Aleksander Aamodt Kilde was unable to participate in the finals due to injury, the Norwegian was in the finish area to cheer on his fiancée. A few days later, the most successful female skier of all time and the 2020 overall World Cup winner parted ways.
The long wait for the reunion ended last week: Shiffrin flew to Oslo and visited the 32-year-old in his home country. In the days that followed, the couple shared pictures and videos of their training sessions together, walks in the Norwegian capital, and cozy evenings by a lake.
Both have had difficult times
"It's not easy being apart so often and for so long. The last time Aleksander and I were together was in March after the World Cup finals," Shiffrin wrote on social media. "But this is just part of doing what we do right now. We never take the time we spend together for granted."Last season didn't go as hoped for either superstar. Shiffrin suffered a stab wound at her home race in Killington, but returned to the World Cup just two months later. Kilde, on the other hand, missed the entire winter due to the injury he sustained in Wengen in January 2024. The Norwegian is still struggling with the effects of that crash. A comeback isn't in sight yet, particularly due to the limited mobility of his left shoulder, which he last underwent surgery on in February. But the resilient athlete isn't giving up.
