She takes it with humor: Ski ace cancels season

The Ski World Cup is now really picking up speed. However, without a podium finisher who had to abruptly end her season.

This week it was already announced that Vice World Champion AJ Ginnis had to end his winter, before it has even begun. Now it's another well-known name. Leona Popovic, slalom ace from Croatia and two-time World Cup podium finisher, will not be competing in any more races this season.

Popovic suffered a partial tear of her cruciate ligament at the World Cup finals last March, but returned to skiing in the summer and competed in the first three slaloms of the season. But now her meniscus is causing her problems. An injury that requires surgical treatment. At the same time, the damaged cruciate ligament is also being repaired.

Popovic took it with humor. "Comeback number 4? Or 5? Ahhh, who's even counting," the Croatian wrote on Instagram. Now the 27-year-old wants to do everything she can to be fit for the 2025/26 Olympic season.

Popovic has already proven several times that she can compete at the top. A year ago, the Croatian finished second on the podium in the Levi slalom, and a few months earlier she achieved the same feat in Andorra. Popovic also has numerous top-10 placings to her name.
