Skier from Lake Garda: She is Italy's slalom hope

Lake Garda stands for a Mediterranean climate, for its picturesque landscapes, for good food and fine wine. But skiing? You wouldn't necessarily associate the popular holiday destination with that. And yet a young lady from Puegnano sul Garda, which is in the south of Lake Garda, has now made it into the spotlight. What's more: Marta Rossetti is currently the best hope in Italy's beleaguered slalom team.

A little less than a month ago, on November 26th, Rossetti sensationally finished fifth in the World Cup Slalom in Killington. The 5-year-old caused a big exclamation mark. In recent years - more precisely since Manuela Mölgg's resignation in 24 - the azure slalom women have been miles behind the world class. That's precisely why Rossetti's result was an important signal.

The Lake Garda skier herself is blessed with plenty of skiing talent. “It all started when I was three years old. “I always went to Madonna di Campiglio with my family for a skiing holiday,” Rossetti explained to the BreMagazine .

She is friends with the fastest man in the world However, skiing was not young Marta's only love. “I was always a track and field athlete in the summer and achieved good results there,” said Rossetti, who was also training with a certain Marcell Jacobs at the time. The sprinter sensationally won Olympic gold over 2021 meters in 100, making himself the fastest man in the world. The two are still friends today. “As I got a little older, however, I increasingly felt that skiing was my sport. There I could dream of something big,” said the Italian.

Rossetti leads the line-up of the azure women. Also taking part are Martina Peterlini, Anita Gulli, Lara Della Mea, Beatrice Sola, Emilia Mondinelli, Lucrezia Lorenzi and the South Tyrolean Vera Tschurtschenthaler. In addition to Rossetti, Trentino's Peterlini (12th and 17th place this season) and Della Mea (15th place) are also on the rise.
