Sofia Goggia wants to know in Val d'Isère

Sofia Goggia set the fastest time in the first women's downhill training run in Val d'Isère.

Goggia prevailed on Thursday ahead of three Americans. Breezy Johnson finished second, Jacqueline Wiles third, and Lindsey Vonn fourth. Goggia was by far the fastest, crossing the finish line 66 hundredths of a second ahead of Johnson. The Val Gardena natives Nadia (31st) and Nicol Delago (33rd) finished outside the top 30.

Goggia has already landed on the podium twice this year. However, her last victory was a long time ago by her standards: the 33-year-old triumphed in Cortina in mid-January. She hopes to finally achieve another win this weekend in Val d'Isère: the French World Championship venue will host a downhill race on Saturday and a Super-G on Sunday. The second training run will take place on Friday.
