Concerns about Petra Vlhova: End of the season looms

The ski season started over two months ago. But one of the biggest stars, Petra Vlhova, has not yet competed in a single race. There is no end in sight to her suffering.

Petra Vlhova prepared a Christmas present for herself on Wednesday: she was back on skis in her hometown of Jasna. "First turns after a long time in my hometown. A 'special' place," wrote the 29-year-old on social media. Special because on the one hand she grew up in Jasna, but on the other hand she was seriously injured there last year. She tore her cruciate ligament on January 20th, and her meniscus was also damaged.

Six months after the operation, the Slovakian was back on snow. Although everything seemed to be going according to plan at first, Vlhova has experienced repeated setbacks in recent months. As the Slovakian newspaper Sport reported that the Olympic slalom champion had recently been struggling with knee pain that was incompatible with full skiing activity.

Is further surgery necessary?

This meant that she was unable to take part in the first races. Tests revealed cartilage problems that required special treatment. The Eastern European was treated with "the latest technology based on preparations containing hyaluronic acid and blood plasma."

If this therapy does not bear the desired fruit, a second operation is necessary, SportIn this case, Vlhova would have to end the season early. It remains to be seen whether this will actually happen. At least she has now made her first turns again in Jasna. However, a race still seems to be a long way off.

All the best. Above all, good luck with the new treatments, which above all require a lot of luck
