Ted Ligety is the king of the Gran Risa - Manfred Mölgg falls behind

Ted Ligety drove his own race in Alta Badia on Sunday. In the first round he demolished the competition with a lead of 2,40 seconds. The second descent on the icy Gran Risa became a freestyle. The US boy won 2,04 seconds ahead of Marcel Hirscher from Salzburg. The third-placed Frenchman Thomas Fanara was already 3,27 seconds behind Ligety, who celebrated the 14th World Cup success of his career (all in giant slalom). This was his second victory in Alta Badia after 2010.

“I laid the foundation for success in the first round. I really enjoyed the second run. The last meters into the finish stadium were simply fantastic,” explained Ted Ligety after his victory.

Manfred Mölgg in 19th place

Bitter for the “Azzurri”: Max Blardone, fifth after the first round, was clearly in the lead after the second interim, but then had an unfortunate exit. The best of the Italian team was Davide Simoncelli from Rovereto, who was able to work his way up to fifth place. The young Luca De Aliprandini collected numerous World Cup points in eleventh place.

However, the second round didn't go as planned for local hero Manfred Mölgg. He had a slow ride with several small mistakes and lost a lot of time. In the end he was 5,85 seconds behind and 19th. Florian Eisath from Eggental, another South Tyrolean, scored points in Alta Badia. He took 26th place (+6,93). The young Abbey native Hannes Zingerle missed qualifying for the second round in 49th place.
