Spring isn't just the time for ski aces to unwind and enjoy a vacation after an intense winter. No, it's also the time of year when wedding bells often ring in the white circus. A variety of locations can serve as venues.
Marie-Michel Gagnon and Travis Ganong, for example, married last summer in the great outdoors at Lake Tahoe in California; Ragnhild Mowinckel celebrated her big day with her husband Mathias in an exquisite castle in Umbria, Italy; while Vincent Kriechmayr married Michaela in a traditional ceremony in Styria. And then there's Laurie Taylor: The British slalom skier also married a few days ago – in the middle of the wilderness.
Dream wedding in Zimbabwe
For the big day, Taylor traveled to Zimbabwe, a dreamlike holiday destination in southern Africa, with his fiancée Katja and some friends. There, the 29-year-old exchanged vows with his sweetheart under the open sky. "This was the best day of my life – in the best week of my life," the skier wrote on Instagram, adding, "Thank you to everyone who made this so special."Taylor posted a video with a variety of impressions from the week, which included more than just a wedding. A romantic campfire was just as much a part of the celebration as breathtaking sunsets. And of course, the group couldn't pass up a safari trip through the picture-perfect African landscape. Also along for the ride was Taylor's British ski colleague, Billy Major, who was equally enthusiastic. "An incredible week in a beautiful part of the world."
Crowning conclusion to a strong season
Laurie Taylor has competed in 66 World Cup races in his career, with an eighth-place finish in Aspen in March 2024 being his best result. Last season, the slalom specialist repeatedly demonstrated his talent, finishing 12th in Val d'Isére. The Briton scored points three more times. Now, the ski ace crowned his season with a dream wedding.Edit Profile
