Devastating fall: Ski star has a lucky escape
Conditions were extremely difficult during Thursday's sprint downhill race in Val Gardena. Diffuse visibility, fog, and a slope softened by the high temperatures made things difficult for the athletes. These conditions proved disastrous for one prominent Norwegian.

As number 45 pushed off from the starting gate, the spectators in the Saslong finish area looked up with bated breath. Fredrik Møller, an athlete who had already secured a World Cup victory and a fourth-place finish in Val Gardena, was attempting to break Marco Odermatt's best time. However, instead of a moment of triumph, the 25-year-old's race ended abruptly.
Møller fell backwards on the camel humps, lay motionless immediately after the fall, and was airlifted to the hospital by the Aiut Alpin rescue helicopter after initial treatment. As the Norwegian Ski Federation announced in the evening, Møller suffered bruises and lost two teeth. He will now be closely monitored by the hospital and the federation's medical team to rule out further injuries after such a serious fall. "He is doing well, considering the circumstances," the statement continued.
Extent of injury unclear
Several people were injured in recent days. Stefan Eichberger and Felix Hacker Two other athletes fell at the same spot. "When you see a fall like that, it sends a chill down your spine," former Norwegian skier Lars Elton Myhre told Norwegian broadcaster R&D. NRK"On the camel humps, the athletes reach speeds of around 120 kilometers per hour. It's terrible when an athlete loses their balance, catches air, and is pulled further and further backward."Fredrik Møller suffered a serious fall. © GETTY IMAGES NORTH AMERICA / CHRISTIAN PETERSEN
A prolonged absence of Møller would certainly be a severe blow to the beleaguered Norwegian speed team. He would have been a strong medal contender, especially in the Super-G, at the Olympic Games, particularly since he celebrated his first World Cup victory in Bormio last year. This season also started excellently for Møller with a second-place finish in the Super-G in Beaver Creek.
