Crazy Kristoffersen rumor is making waves

It's a bit like a fairy tale. In the summer, Henrik Kristoffersen joined his former arch-rival Marcel Hirscher, who has big plans for the Van Deer ski brand. You could already see in the first race of the season that the cooperation is bearing fruit. He raced in the giant slalom in Sölden Norwegian promptly made it to the podium and came third: A fantastic debut that thrilled the ski world.

However, one detail caused surprise. The Van Deer logo on Kristoffersen's skis was covered with black tape. An official statement was made a little later: Van Deer is supported on a large scale by Red Bull, which is why the shower manufacturer's logo can be seen on the skis. However, according to FIS guidelines, this is currently not allowed. Both parties are in discussions to find a solution.

Were they not Van Deer skis at all? The pasted-over logo not only caused a stir, but also speculation. A very wild rumor came from France. Like the renowned sports newspaper The Team reported that some experienced service staff observed that Kristoffersen did not ski with Van Deers, but rather used skis from his old supplier Rossignol. According to these experts, the shape of the two slats is identical to that of the Rossignol models. According to the accusation, Van Deer only applied the new black paint.

A spicy accusation towards Hirscher and Kristoffersen. The Norwegian himself denied this ledauphine.com immediately. “100 percent no!” says Kristoffersen, who also takes a swipe at his old brand: “Otherwise I wouldn’t have ended up on the podium.”

Shape and geometry can be similar And even for neutral observers it is extremely unlikely that there is any truth to this rumor. Magnus Walch, former World Cup skier and now ski tester, was there at the start of the World Cup in Sölden and was able to get an idea of the controversial object. On the podcast Après-ski he explains: “I’m 99 percent sure that this is a Van Deer ski.”

The Austrian immediately provides the explanation: “When building a device like this, you always take a bit of a cue from other brands, which is why the shape and geometry can often be similar. I have no idea where this rumor comes from now. If so, then this ski would be more like an Atomic ski than a Rossignol ski anyway,” says the 30-year-old.

So it seems like this is all really just a wild, baseless rumor. Nevertheless, this story attracted enough attention - Van Deer certainly shouldn't be displeased with that.
