He said he was still very satisfied with the decision he made some time ago, even though the end of his career had not turned out the way he thought he might have deserved, referring to his suspension in the wake of the Norwegian suit scandal at the home World Championships in Trondheim.
The hoped-for farewell at the ski jumping event in Planica didn't happen due to the suspension. Does that feel bitter? "Yes, one hundred percent. It's a bummer not being able to finish the season and my career as usual," said Johansson. His wings were simply clipped, said the ski jumper, who won gold with the Norwegian team at both the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang and the World Championships in Oberstdorf. Two years later, he added another gold medal, also in the team competition, at the World Championships in Planica.
At this year's World Championships in Trondheim, Norwegian ski jumpers' tampered with ski jump suits sparked a cheating scandal. The World Championship hosts equipped the suits with a band, which is prohibited by the regulations and is supposed to provide greater stability after takeoff. In addition to world champions Marius Lindvik and Johann Andre Forfang, whose suits were found to have been tampered with, the FIS also banned Johansson, among others. After the end of the season, the FIS lifted the bans.
