Coach Magnus Brevig was suspended the day after the end of the Nordic World Ski Championships in Trondheim, as was his employee Adrian Livelten, who was also involved. The association is thus drawing the consequences from the suit fraud, which sports director Jan Erik Aalbu admitted to being under increasing pressure on Sunday. Anonymously filmed and published videos have been causing a great stir in ski jumping since Saturday. The moving images show the Norwegian team in the presence of 41-year-old Brevig handling the competition suits in an improper manner.
"What we did is manipulate or modify the suits in such a way that they violate the rules. It was a deliberate act and consequently it is cheating," Brevig said today. "It was a mutual decision, but as head coach I should have stopped it in any case." He deeply regrets his behavior.
Forfang and Lindvik claim innocence
The Norwegians have added an illegal seam that is supposed to provide more stability. The additional stability helps the jumpers to fly in the air. Aalbu has already announced consequences. He himself claims to have known nothing about the practices.Immediately after the large hill individual event, in which Marius Lindvik and Johann André Forfang were disqualified, Aalbu spoke of a "rule violation". Only later did he admit to cheating. However, he still enjoys the trust of the association. The former Slovenian ski jumper Bine Norcic will now take over as coach. Forfang and Lindvik say they knew nothing about the fraud.
