Tour over: Timi Zajc also disqualified in Garmisch

Ski jumper Timi Zajc has been disqualified in the second competition of the Four Hills Tournament and will now receive a red card.

At the New Year's ski jumping event in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the Slovenian's suit deviated from the standard by four millimeters, which is why Zajc was disqualified even before his first jump.

"It can happen, but when it happens a second time in a row, I have to say: that shouldn't happen. It's obviously very frustrating for the athlete," said German ski jumper Karl Geiger about his rival's renewed violation.

Tour over for Zajc

In Oberstdorf, his suit deviated by three millimeters, which is why the teammate of perennial winner Domen Prevc was subsequently stripped of his shared second place. Zajc was thus not only disqualified from the first two jumps of the Four Hills Tournament, but is also excluded from the two upcoming competitions in Innsbruck (January 4) and Bischofshofen (January 6).

"It's the only correct thing to do to stick to the policy," said former athlete Severin Freund, working as a ZDF expert. "If the athlete doesn't adjust accordingly and doesn't work hard enough afterward, the only logical consequence is for the FIS to continue sticking to its policy."
