Great anticipation for the Drei Zinnen Ski Raid

On Saturday, March 11th, hundreds of enthusiastic ski tourers will once again make their way from the Fischleinbodenhütte up to the Sextnerstein, in order to then tackle the rapid descent to the finish at the valley end hut. The spectacular route in the heart of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site, a unique view of the surrounding mountains and the social gathering after reaching the finish - these are probably the “secret ingredients” that make the Drei Zinnen Ski Raid a unique ski mountaineering competition. Not to mention the fact that all participants pass directly by the Three Peaks. This year the starting signal for this “classic” will be given on Saturday, March 11th. The participants will then set off from the Fischleinbodenhütte at 8 a.m. and try to complete the 17,8 kilometer route with an altitude of 1625 meters in the Sesto Dolomites as quickly as possible. A demanding route At first it's relatively flat to the valley end hut, before the first steep climb of almost 700 meters to the Zsigmondy hut. After a short descent, the route goes up around 400 meters to the first aid station at Büllelejoch, before the second descent to the Lake Constance awaits the participants. The athletes can relax briefly and mobilize their strength before climbing to the highest point of the race at Sextnerstein. From here, all ski mountaineers also have the best view of the Three Peaks. The final part of this section of the route even has to be completed on foot with skis on a backpack. Then - as a reward for the effort - there is a more than four kilometer long descent down to the valley end hut, where the finish is. Security is a key aspect The topic of safety is very important at the Drei Zinnen Ski Raid. According to the regulations, all participants are obliged to carry all ski touring equipment with them. This includes a helmet, a functioning and switched on avalanche transceiver that must be worn on the body, as well as a backpack, probe, shovel and a rescue blanket. Participants must dress appropriately for the weather and temperatures. Not only the fastest participants in the individual categories are evaluated, but also the three best teams, each consisting of three athletes in the amateur category. By the way, the combined ranking for the Drei Zinnen Ski Raid and the South Tyrol Drei Zinnen Alpine Run was also confirmed. The three best female and three athletes overall in both races will receive cash prizes.
