Carezza: Gondola handover and number draw

The VISA FIS Snowboard World Cup Carezza Dolomites was officially opened on Wednesday with the handover of the Hubertus cable car gondola, named after the winners of the last edition, and the drawing of starting numbers.

On Thursday at 9 a.m. the qualifications for the parallel giant slalom begin on the Pra di Tori slope, followed by the knockout competitions starting at 12:45 p.m., in which the winner of the 15th Parallel Snowboard World Cup at Karerpass will be determined.

Jasmin Coratti and Radoslav Yankov triumphed in the parallel giant slalom at the latest Carezza Dolomites Snowboard World Cup and, as is tradition, were honored on Wednesday with the presentation of a gondola on the Hubertus cable car named after them. For Coratti, from Langtaufers in South Tyrol, it was her first World Cup victory last year. "It's amazing! I've been looking forward to this gondola for a year now because it's simply an honor to receive something like this. I'll approach it tomorrow exactly the same way I did last year, and I hope for the same result," said Coratti.

Radoslav Yankov was also deeply moved last year when, exactly nine years after his previous triumph at Pra di Tori, he achieved his second victory in Carezza Dolomites. "We are here today in this beautiful place for the handover of my second gondola, following the one I won in 2015, ten years ago. I am very happy that I won here last year and now a second gondola bears my name," commented the Bulgarian snowboarder.

At 6 p.m., the opening ceremony of the 15th Carezza Dolomites Snowboard World Cup took place in the heated marquee near Pra di Tori, where the starting numbers for the qualifying runs on Thursday at 9 a.m. were drawn. Sixty-three snowboarders will compete for a place in the men's round of 16. First up are Italy's Mirko Felicetti (Moena, bib number 17) and Austria's Alexander Payer (bib number 18). Next is Gabriel Messner (Villnöß, bib number 17), followed by Edwin Coratti (Langtaufers, bib number 21) and Daniele Bagozza (St. Ulrich, bib number 23). The 16 female and 16 male athletes with the fastest times qualify for the knockout round, which begins at 12:45 PM with the round of 16 and will determine the winner of the 15th VISA FIS Snowboard Alpine World Cup Carezza Dolomites. Anyone interested can follow the race at the Karerpass on-site or from home by watching the live broadcasts on Rai Sport, ORF SPORT+, and Eurosport 2, as well as the live stream on Eurosport Player.
