Roland Filehner wins World Championship silver - "I'm very satisfied"

On his way to the final, Filehner initially prevailed against the two Slovenians Rok Marguc and Rok Flander. In the semi-finals he eliminated their compatriot Zan Kosir before taking on his long-term rival Benjamin Karl in the big showdown. After "Fisch" left the slopes in the first run and was disqualified, the Lower Austrian had an easy time in the second and secured the world title.

Fischlerler was still able to celebrate his second medal at the World Championships. Two years ago he won the bronze medal in the parallel giant slalom. This is the twelfth World Championship podium finish for a South Tyrolean snowboarder ( see table below ).

"I'm very satisfied. Just getting to the final was absolute madness because I was in bed with a fever all last week. Luckily, my mother nursed me back to health. Now I’m looking forward to Sunday and the parallel slalom,” said the Villnößer after the race.

The bronze medal in Stoneham went to Vic Wild from Russia. The other South Tyroleans failed in the round of 16 or qualification on Friday. Aaron March was eliminated in the first knockout round against Flanders, his compatriots Edwin Coratti and Meinhard Erlacher missed out on the round of 16.

Qualification out for Ochner and Tribus

In the women's category, local athletes Nadya Ochner and Andrea Christine Tribus had to give up the qualification. The victory went to Isabella Laböck from Germany, who prevailed in the final against the Austrian Julia Dujmovits. Another German snowboarder, Amelie Kober, took bronze.

The parallel slalom in Stoneham is on the World Cup program on Sunday.

Roland Filehner wins World Championship silver - "I'm very satisfied"

The experienced snowboarder from Villnöß won the silver medal at the World Championships in Stoneham, Canada, in freezing temperatures (minus 17 degrees). In the parallel giant slalom he only had to admit defeat to defending champion Benjamin Karl from Austria in the final.
