Italy sent three teams into the race, the nominally strongest team being Edwin Coratti and Lucia Dalmasso. Nadya Ochner rode with Marc Hofer, Maurizio Bormolini with Elisa Caffont. In the small final, the 25-year-old made up for her mistake and narrowly put the US team (Cody Winters and Iris Pflum) in their place. Coratti and Dalmasso thus had third place in their pockets. After an exciting head-to-head race, they crossed the finish line at the same time. The favored Schöffmann therefore made use of her greater experience and gave Austria victory.
