True sibling love: hitchhiking to the hospital

"Everyone wishes they had a big brother like that!" Jasmin Coratti must have thought that more than once on February 24, 2024. The 23-year-old from Langtaufers experienced a real nightmare in Krynica, somewhere in the middle of nowhere in Poland. During the World Cup race, Jassi fell heavily and dislocated her elbow. She was taken to hospital in severe pain; hardly anyone spoke English there.

Right after Jasmin, it was her big brother Edwin Coratti's turn. He also fell on the treacherous slope, but escaped without any major injuries. "Edwin was immediately very worried, and I was worried. He immediately drove to the hotel, but had no idea where the hospital was," explains Jasmin. "So he ran out onto the street and hitchhiked there. A few snowboard fans stopped and drove him to the hospital. That was really nice of him," says a touched Jasmin Coratti, whose elbow was put back in place in the hospital. She was spared an operation.

The most unfortunate moment of the season showed what this sibling love is made of. Otherwise, there were many happy moments for the two of them last winter. At the beginning of January, Jasmin made her first sensational World Cup podium in Scuol/Schuls, just 40 kilometers from her home in Langtaufers in Graubünden (Switzerland). "That was fantastic," Edwin Coratti enthused proudly.

An unforgettable day "Scuol is half an hour away from our home, family, friends - everyone was there. They probably thought I would make it onto the podium. But then Jassi came second. Just a few days later she made it onto the podium again in third place," says big brother Edwin, looking back. Jasmin herself explains: "I never dreamed that the season would go like this. I actually wanted to make it into the top 16, but in the end I got two podium places."

While 23-year-old Jasmin Coratti is a rising star in the snowboard scene, Edwin, who is 10 years older, has long been one of the stars of the board circus. He has won 5 times in his career so far, and last winter he made it onto the podium 3 times. And that despite the fact that it was a season with many question marks for him. "I made a big change to the equipment, which means: I rode with a new plate system. No one had ever done anything like that before me in the World Cup. There was a certain risk involved, but it paid off completely."

This is another reason why Coratti has big goals this year. "I want to be in the top 3 in the overall World Cup and win a medal at the World Cup," says the 33-year-old, outlining his goals for the season. His sister Jasmin wants to compete in the World Cup "among the big guys" for the first time after winning bronze in the juniors' World Cup in 2019. Especially since the championships will take place in March 2025 in Engadin (Switzerland), which is "only" 70 kilometers from their front door.
