Winter sports association presents competition calendar

Carezza starts things off The World Cup races in South Tyrol start in three weeks with the snowboarders, who are coming to Carezza for the seventh year in a row. On Thursday, December 14th, a parallel giant slalom will take place on the Pra-Di-Tori slope on the Karerpass. Roland Filehner has already celebrated two victories in Carezza in 2011 and 2014.

The classics in Val Gardena and Alta Badia Immediately afterwards, from December 15th to 18th, the Alpine skiing classics on the Saslong in Val Gardena and the Gran Risa in Alta Badia are on the program. Val Gardena is celebrating 50 years of the World Cup this year. “We have invited all the winners, downhill legends such as Franz Klemm, Bernhard Russi, Pirmin Zurbriggen and Herbert Plank have already confirmed their presence,” said Val Gardena’s new press spokesman Wolfgang Resch. The two speed races in Val Gardena will take place on December 15th (super-G) and 15th (downhill), while in Val Badia on December 17th (giant slalom) and 18th (parallel giant slalom) the technicians will race for World Cup points.

Women start at Kronplatz The Alpine women, on the other hand, are starting at Kronplatz for the second year in a row. There is a giant slalom on the program on January 23, 2018 and of course everyone is rooting for local hero Manuela Mölgg. Maybe she can achieve her first World Cup victory on her own doorstep.

Cross-country skiing elite in the Toblacher Nordic Arena On December 16th and 17th, the elite in international cross-country skiing will also come to South Tyrol. For the ninth year in a row, the World Cup will be taking place in the Toblach Nordic Arena. Two freestyle races will be held on Saturday, December 16th, and two classic style pursuit races will take place the following day. “And we are already looking forward to next winter, because the Tour de Ski will start in Toblach for the first time at the end of 2018, announced OK Vice President Hanspeter Fuchs.

Ski crossers in San Candido Before Christmas, the ski crossers are in action on the slopes of the Haunold in San Candido. The Hochpustertal will be the venue for the FIS Ski Cross World Cup races for the ninth time in a row from December 20th and 22nd.

Antholz, the biathlon mecca The absolute winter sports highlight is still the biathlon races in Antholz. In the third week of January (January 18th to 21st), the world's best ski hunters will delight over 65.000 fans in the South Tyrol Arena. Top-class sport paired with a top entertainment program make Antholz and South Tyrol the mecca of biathlon for a week. This winter, Antholz is also the last World Cup stop before the Olympic Games.

Natural track tobogganists compete in Latzfons and Deutschnofen There are also two local World Cup races in natural track tobogganing. On January 6th and 7th, Patrick Pigneter & Co. will be in Latzfons, three weeks later on January 27th and 28th in Deutschnofen.

Slopestyle World Cup on the Seiser Alm For the second time in a row, the Slopestyle World Cup will be in South Tyrol this winter. From March 14th to 17th, 2018, both women and men will fight for World Cup points on the Seiser Alm.

European Alpine Cup races begin on December 13th in Obereggen There are also seven European Cup races on the Alpine program this year. The first European Ski Cup race of the season in South Tyrol is traditionally the slalom in Obereggen on December 13th. Three days later, a parallel slalom for women and men will be held in St. Vigil, while the Sarner Speed Week will take place in Reinswald from February 19th to 23rd, 2018. The U18 Italian Championships in the speed disciplines will also be held in Reinswald in the first week of March.

In biathlon, the European Championships in Ridnaun (January 23-28, 2018) will take place this year immediately after the World Cup in Antholz. An IBU Junior Cup race will also be held here in mid-December, while the IBU Cup will be in Martell from February 1st to 3rd, 2018. Antholz will also host the Italian Mass Start Biathlon Championships at the end of March.

The snowboarders will race for European Cup points in Ratschings on April 7th and 8th, 2018. Carezza is hosting the Italian Championships a month earlier.

The Junior World Championships for natural track luge will take place in Lasa on February 3rd and 4th, 2018, while the Junior World Cup will take place on the Seiser Alm on January 3rd and 4th. Latsch is hosting the FIL youth games on February 24th and 25th, and the RV Passeier Italian Championship on December 27th and 28th.

The national title fights in cross-country skiing are organized from March 24th to 27th in 2918 Dobbiaco, and those in ski mountaineering on January 14th by ASV Skialp Ahrntal.

Nationwide racing series In most sports there are nationwide racing series again this year. These racing series are the heart of the state winter sports association. Almost all local world-class athletes started their careers here. The most important series in alpine skiing is the Marlene Cup (U21 and U18), which begins on December 3rd in Sulden with a giant slalom and includes 12 races. The Alpines also compete in the Raiffeisen Grand Prix, in the VSS series and in the Euregio Master Cup. The Volksbank Trophy for cross-country skiers also starts in mid-December and is being held for the 39th time this year. Raiffeisen, on the other hand, supports the youth series of natural track tobogganers. There are also racing series in biathlon (Hubert Leitgeb Trophy), snowboarding (Triveneto Cup) and freestyle (Raiffeisen Tour)

The traditional cross-country races, such as the Pustertaler Skimarathon, the Pfitscher Lauf, Dobbiaco-Cortina, the Gsieser-Tal-Lauf and the Ridnauner Volkslauf are of course also on the program again.
