Top: South Tyrol's winter athletes beamed from the podium 68 times

While there were 2014 podium finishes in the winter of 15/55, the South Tyroleans increased their haul to 68 “stickerl” results in the past World Cup season. The biggest increase was recorded by the biathletes, who climbed from 7 to 15 podium finishes. Dorothea Wierer undoubtedly played the main role in this. She not only won a small crystal ball, but also won a total of three races and made it into the top three in the individual six more times.

In Alpine skiing, Dominik Paris and downhill World Cup winner Peter Fill were particularly impressive with five and three podium finishes respectively. However, the most successful South Tyrolean World Cup athletes are the tobogganers. While Dominik Filehner & Co. finished in the top 3 seven times on the ice track, the natural track sledders led by Patrick Pigneter recorded no fewer than 28 podium finishes.

Overall, the South Tyroleans achieved 30 victories, 22 second places and 16 third places in the past World Cup winter.

The Italian winter athletes recorded a whopping 102 top-three placements in the past World Cup season. More than half of this was due to local athletes who caused a sensation across disciplines and clearly topped last year's results.
