The winter sports season is entering the home stretch

When the calendar turns to March, it is clear to all winter sports enthusiasts that the season is coming to an end. Nevertheless, the scene was very busy - not only in South Tyrol, but also outside the country's borders.

The Italian Biathlon Championships for the U15 and U13 age groups were held last weekend in Bionaz in the Aosta Valley. In the U15 individual event, Anna Wolf (Antholz) won the gold medal on Saturday, while her teammate Eva Hilber took third place and bronze. There were no South Tyrolean medals among the boys of the same age. Here, Matthäus Schwitzer (ASV Ridnaun) was the best local ski hunter. He came fifth. In the U13, Lia Rainer (Ridnaun) won the bronze medal. Behind them, five other South Tyroleans, Emma Filippi (Antholz), Franziska Staffler (Ulten), Martha Bacher (Rein), Alice Mantovani (SC Gröden) and Sophia Plank (ASV Ridnaun), came in fourth to eighth. In the boys' category, Adam Oberhauser from SC Gröden narrowly missed out on the bronze medal, coming fourth.

The relays were on the programme on Sunday. In the U13 girls' category, there was a double victory for South Tyrol. Mia Pedevilla, Emma Filippi and Lia Rainer won gold, Dana Lilien Riba, Martha Bacher and Alice Mantovani took silver. Among the boys of the same age, Adam Oberhauser, Julian Demanega and Ivan Willeit came fourth. In the U15, Felix Brunner/Luca Aricò/Elia Steinkasserer took second place behind Trentino, as did Eva Hilber/Lena Spechtenhauser/Anna Wolf in the young biathletes' category behind the Comitato Alpi Occidentali.

Freestyle: Pescollderungg and Thöni not to bend

The freeskiing Coppa Italia continued at Monte Bondone in Trentino at the weekend. It was a successful stage for the local athletes. Heidi Pescollderungg and Adrian Thöni won the competition. Both belong to the junior age group - as did Elia Hofer and Emmi Fohrer, who both took third place. There were further podium finishes to celebrate in the juniors' category. Jakob Aichner from ASV Hafling won the "Allievi", Maya Recla (Vitamin F) came third in the "Children" category and Lotta Recla (also Vitamin F) won the "Pulcini" age group.

Cross-country skiing: victories in the Coppa Italia

At a stage of the Italian cross-country skiing cup in Forni Avoltri (Friuli-Venezia Giulia), the young South Tyroleans did very well and took the top places in the various age groups. Marie Schwitzer from Sarnen won a sprint in the U20 free skating technique ahead of Marit Folie from Vinschgau. Ruben Wurzer from Pustertal came fourth in the men's category of the same age. In the distance race the following day, Folie turned the tables and won ahead of Schwitzer and Romina Bachmann. In the U18, Luca Pietroboni from ASV Sesvenna took second place, and Marta Bellotti came fourth in the young women's category.
