The organizers announced this on Monday. The route will lead to world-famous tourist spots such as the Colosseum in Rome and the Grand Canal in Venice, but also to southern cities like Palermo and Naples.
“Every step of the torch relay through our cities will remind the world of the unifying power of sport,” said Giovanni Malago, president of the Milano Cortina 2026 Foundation, adding that the journey will celebrate “the essence of Italy.” The torch relay begins on November 26 with the lighting of the flame in Olympia, the Greek site of the ancient Games.
Several stages in South Tyrol
The flame will be handed over to Italian officials in Athens on December 4th and will begin its journey through Italy from Rome two days later. At the end of January, it will also travel to South Tyrol for three days – from January 27th to 29th, the torch will travel in several stages from the Puster Valley, through the Eisack Valley, the Dolomites, Bolzano, the Lower Adige Valley and Überetsch, to Merano.Edit Profile
