Ritten is preparing for the World Curling Championships

In times like the current ones, it is extremely difficult to organize an event of this magnitude. Every day, a new regulation or a new provision in the wake of the ongoing global corona pandemic can throw all the plans that have been made overboard - and thus render the work done useless. But at Ritten you practice calm in this regard. OC boss Walter Prast and his committed team are trying to stay relaxed in the run-up to the third curling world championships after 2008 and 2016, which will take place in Klobenstein from February 15th to 27th, 2022. “In terms of sport, the major event is already well planned. The safety concept for athletes, coaches and supervisors, as well as the many volunteers, is also in place. Of course we would like to hold the competitions in front of an audience. As of today, we cannot yet say exactly whether and how many spectators will be allowed in mid-February. That will probably also depend on developments in the near future. However, we believe it is impossible that there will be a festival as part of the World Cup,” says Walter Prast around a month before the first curling stick will glide over the perfect Ritten ice. 25 nations from 6 continents there However, the number of participating nations is certain 33 days before the opening ceremony. 25 countries have registered for the title fights in the Olympic-recognized sport, in which curling athletes from the U16 age group to the general class will be in action. Conversely, this means that a total of around 500 athletes will fight for gold, silver and bronze in the various competitions of this international and multicultural event on Ritten. Not only will the curling powers such as Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the hosts from South Tyrol, who are competing for Italy, be taking part, but also national teams such as those from Guatemala, Namibia, Kenya, India, Gabon, Brazil and Australia I wouldn't necessarily associate it with curling right away. Due to these impressive numbers, the World Curling Championships are also an extremely welcome event for the Ritten tourism sector. “On the one hand, the title fights ensure a high number of overnight stays in a period before the carnival holidays that is not particularly strong in terms of tourism. On the other hand, we are diligently promoting our beautiful high plateau in the heart of South Tyrol around the world,” explains Giada Vesentini, who is responsible for event management and local marketing at Ritten. The schedule It starts in Klobenstein from February 15th to 19th with the title fights for the juniors (U23). At the same time, the European champions will be determined in the U19 to U16 age groups. From February 22nd to 27th, the major event will finally continue with the World Championships in the general class, which also represent the highlight of the medal fights. In the team game, long-distance and target competitions, the fight for precious metal takes place. All competitions will be shown via live stream on the Internet.
