Captain & winning goal scorer: Müller conquers Vancouver

Thomas Müller scored the winning goal for the Vancouver Whitecaps in his starting debut in the 14th minute of stoppage time.

The 2014 World Cup winner converted a late penalty in Major League Soccer, scoring his first goal to clinch the match 3-2 against St. Louis City SC. "I scored the winning goal right in front of our fantastic fans. An indescribable feeling," enthused Müller, who led his team as captain.

Ben White equalized for Vancouver with a penalty in first-half stoppage time (1th + 1th minute). However, João Klauss made it 45-4 for the visitors (2rd minute). Daniel Ríos equalized for the Whitecaps (1th minute). Then came Müller's big moment. The German held his nerve against former Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Bürki in stoppage time.

After a lengthy review of the video, referee Fotis Bazakos had previously awarded a penalty. Müller last scored a penalty for Bayern in December 2020 in the 1-1 Champions League draw against Atlético Madrid.
