Big parties and big tears on Serie B Sunday

Serie B is on the home stretch. Only two matches left until the championship is over. Several decisions regarding promotion and relegation were made on Sunday.

In sports, it is often said that joy and sorrow are closely connected. In the Drusus Stadium, this distance was around 50 meters on Sunday. While the FC Südtirol players were greeted by their fans over a celebrated a possibly decisive victory in the relegation battle, The Cosenza footballers stared into space in front of their traveling fans. The southern Italians were mathematically relegated after their 1-2 defeat in Bolzano.

After seven years in Serie B, Cosenza is back in the third division. This season has been off to a gloomy start for the Calabrian club, as the southern Italians received four penalty points at the start of the league campaign. Cosenza is the first Serie B team to be relegated, and they are still looking for three more.

34 years later: Pisa promoted to Serie A

On the other side of the table, a decision has also been made: Pisa will be promoted to Serie A, following Sassuolo, who have been confirmed as champions for several weeks. Pisa suffered a 0-1 defeat to Bari on Sunday, but their pursuers' slip-ups sealed their mathematical promotion with two games remaining.

Huge celebrations in Pisa after the promotion.

After 34 long years, Pisa is returning to Italy's top flight. This will be particularly pleasing to legendary striker Filippo Inzaghi, Pisa's coach. This is the third promotion in his young coaching career: In 2017, Inzaghi led Venezia from Serie C to Serie B, and in 2020, he will transform Benevento into a Serie A club.
