FC Südtirol rebuffs the first division teams

The tough test passed! FC Südtirol hosted two Serie A clubs at the Drusus Stadium on Saturday – and left the pitch undefeated. However, it still wasn't enough to win the tournament.

To conclude its training camp, FCS invited Coppa Italia champions Bologna and Serie A newcomers Sassuolo to a three-way tournament in Bolzano. In front of a crowd of just over 2.800, all three teams competed against each other, each lasting 60 minutes.

In the opening game, the White and Reds were held to a goalless draw by Bologna's European Cup squad of Ciro Immobile, Dan Ndoye, Federico Bernardeschi, and Co. After a lackluster first 30 minutes, Bologna increasingly seized the initiative, but FCS held firm at the back. And when the favorites did break through, goalkeeper Adamonis was there to stop them.

Castori's team remained undefeated in its second tournament match: The duel with last year's second-division opponents Sassuolo ended in a 1-1 draw. Midfielder Jacopo Martini gave the South Tyroleans their first lead of the evening, heading in a delicate cross from Daniele Casiraghi in the 20th minute. However, Sassuolo responded immediately with a long-range shot from Nicholas Perini. Substitute goalkeeper Giacomo Poluzzi was powerless. No further goals were scored in an evenly matched second half.

Bologna wins the trophy

Although FC Südtirol entered the catacombs undefeated, it was not enough to win the tournament. This was due to Bologna's 2-1 victory in the all-Emilian Serie A clash with Sassuolo. The only goal, by Andrea Pinamonti from Nonsberg, was not enough for the newly promoted team.

Bologna thus won the cup and at the same time concluded its training camp in Vals with a final success – much to the delight of the many fans in red and blue who attended the test match in Bolzano.
