FC Südtirol struggles: Klinsmann & Co. win in Bolzano
FC Südtirol's drought is getting longer and longer: Almost a month has passed since their last league win in Serie B. Even in Saturday's home game against AC Cesena, the team failed to break the deadlock. Jürgen Klinsmann, however, was in attendance, cheering on his son from the stands.

Although the teams were separated by eight places in the standings before the match, they shared a curious trait: Neither club had managed to keep a clean sheet in the previous eight matchdays. This streak came to an end on this pleasant autumn afternoon in Bolzano, as Cesena prevailed 1-0. FC Südtirol has thus been without a win since September 27th.
A number of prominent football figures gathered at the Drusus Stadium for the match against the fourth-placed team. Former German national coach Jürgen Klinsmann, whose son Jonathan was in goal for Cesena, attended the match with former Austrian international Andreas Herzog. They witnessed a brisk start from the visitors, who were rewarded for their efforts with a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute. The White and Reds, on the other hand, rarely made an attacking appearance. The home side's hopes rested on crosses, which mostly lacked the necessary precision.
Fabrizio Castori's team, who was suspended from directing his men from the touchline, refused to give up and played more courageously in the second half. However, there was no getting past the indomitable Jonathan Klinsmann, who made a miraculous save against Raphael Odogwu, among others.
Ultimately, the Cesena win was deserved because the home team woke up too late. They certainly had the ability to play more actively and aggressively, as they demonstrated with some lapses in the second half. Their next chance for a win comes next Wednesday, when the South Tyroleans visit Venice (8:30 p.m.).
The highlights
| Taking a deep breath | Only three minutes into the game, things got dangerous in front of Giacomo Poluzzi's goal. Simone Davi cleared the ball off the line, and Jalen Blesa also threatened with a header. |
| There is the leadership | FCS attempts countless crosses, but with only limited success. At the other end, Tommaso Berti delivers a low pass into the penalty area, where the unmarked Cristian Shpendi easily converts. |
| Dad's pride and joy | The FCS fans are already cheering as Raphael Odogwu prepares to take a shot on the turn. Klinsmann, however, rises above himself with a cat-like reaction in front of his father. |
| The ball doesn't want to go in | The hosts pressed hard for an equalizer in the closing stages. However, Silvio Merkaj's header was too central, and Jonathan Italeng was unlucky with an overhead kick, sending the ball flying just over the goal. |
