Pescara promoted to Serie B

In a dramatic penalty shootout on Saturday evening, Pescara beat Ternana and secured promotion to Serie B.

FC Südtirol had already secured its place in Serie B several weeks ago, but in Italy's second-highest league, the game hasn't yet been decided. On Saturday evening, Pescara and Ternana met in the final of the Serie C playoffs – promotion and thus the right to face the White and Reds at the Drusus Stadium next season.

Pescara won the first leg 1-0 on Monday, putting them in a strong position for the return leg. A draw at their home stadium, the Stadio Adriatico, would have been enough for the "Dolphins" to secure promotion to Serie B, but Ternana weren't about to give up without a fight. After Matteo Dagasso was sent off in the 62nd minute, leaving the hosts with ten men, Kees De Boer scored the 1-0 for the visitors – forcing the match into extra time.

Despite being outnumbered, Pescara saved themselves in the penalty shootout – and won from the spot, thus securing promotion to the second highest Italian league.
