The relegation battle remains a daily occurrence for FC Südtirol: On Sunday, the team of coach Fabrizio Castori had a great opportunity to overtake the Brescia team, who are also stuck in the hot zone, in the table and climb to eleventh place. But the opportunity was wasted: the white-reds returned home with a 0-0 draw.
The tension in both teams was noticeable. Brescia last won in their own stadium on September 30th of last year. Otherwise, Rolando Maran's team, which was also managed by former FCS coach Pierpaolo Bisoli for a while, played a lot of draws (between December 15th and January 18th there were six draws in a row). FC Südtirol, on the other hand, has been in good form recently, winning three of the last four games. On Sunday there was some good news for the South Tyroleans, with Andrea Masiello and Luca Belardinelli, two recently injured players, making their comebacks. Captain Fabian Tait sat on the bench for the first time in almost four months, but was not yet able to play.

On the pitch, a real relegation thriller developed between Brescia and FC Südtirol: Both teams were careful not to make any mistakes and took very few risks. The logical consequence was a game without any great scoring opportunities. The hosts looked for possession of the ball and fired a large number of (harmless) shots at FCS goalkeeper Marius Adamonis' goal (nine in total). The FCS professionals, on the other hand, stood back and waited for quick advances.
One point for the FCS
After a goal by Silvio Merkaj was disallowed shortly before half-time (handball by Raphael Odogwu), the White-Reds had their strongest phase in the first 20 minutes. Daniele Casiraghi, who had three chances, was unable to capitalize on his chances. From the 65th minute onwards, both teams concentrated on playing the game without making any mistakes in order to not give the opponent a chance to score. The most important scenes of the game
Odogwu, the Savior | The home team had only one great chance in the first half: Adamonis was already beaten by Gabriele Calvani's header, but Odogwu was at his side and saved the ball on the line with his head (27'). |
Goal disallowed | Shortly before half-time, Merkaj celebrates after Odogwu has served him perfectly and beats Brescia keeper Luca Lezzerini for what appears to be the 1-0 lead. However, the goal does not count because Odogwu's pass was made with his hand (42'). |
Casiraghi! | The whirlwind makes an appearance three times: first, a free kick from an optimal position falls too centrally (49th minute), then he misses the goal in a 2-on-1 situation with Merkaj from eleven meters (52nd minute), before Casiraghi is also unable to convert an Odogwu pass into a goal (55th minute). It is the White-Reds' strongest phase. |
uneventful final phase | Instead of playing to win, both teams focused on defending in the closing stages. There were no major chances to report until the final whistle. |
After a few direct duels, FC Südtirol will face a top team next Friday: Spezia Calcio. The professionals from Liguria are in third place in the table, just seven points away from a direct promotion spot. The evening game in the Drusus Stadium under floodlights starts at 19.30:XNUMX p.m. SportNews accompanies the game as usual with a live ticker.
