Offensive extraordinaire: Promotion hero new MVP

One of Sassuolo's promotion heroes received a special honor: Serie B named him MVP of the 2024/25 season. Thanks in part to a percentage that only a few players have achieved, even in Europe's top five leagues.

The 0-2 defeat to Catanzaro on Friday evening at home quickly faded into the background for Sassuolo. The joy of returning to Serie A dominated the proceedings for the champions from Emilia-Romagna – and was complemented by another special moment. Armand Laurienté was named MVP of the 2024/25 Serie B season. The French left winger has had a top-class season behind him.

The 33-year-old has scored 26 goals in 18 league matches, more than any other player. Although Tuesday is the final matchday, Laurienté will likely do everything in his power to avoid being overtaken in the goalscoring list by Pietro Iemmello (Catanzaro/16) and Francesco Pio Esposito (Spezia/16). One statistic in particular stands out for the Sassuolo hero: Laurientè is, alongside Mateo Retegui and Ousmane Dembélé, one of only three players in Europe's top five leagues and their second divisions to have scored at least eight goals with both his left and right foot this season. The Frenchman has scored eight with his left and ten with his right. Furthermore, no other Serie B player has scored more goals from outside the penalty area (5).
