Coaches in Serie B: Castling and license tricks

There's been a lot going on in Serie B in recent days. Besides the mafia scandal surrounding Juve Stabia, the focus has been on coaching changes.

The Mafia scandal surrounding Juve Stabia The situation is getting wider and wider. As was revealed on Wednesday, a clan of the Campanian Camorra controlled virtually the entire club. What will happen next is unclear. The club has been temporarily placed under receivership.


In addition to the chaos surrounding the seventh-placed team, there were also other stories that stirred up a lot of dust. Sampdoria coach Massimo Donati released and Salvatore Foti as the new coach. However, the 37-year-old Foti (who was assistant coach to Josè Mourinho at Roma and Fenerbahce) does not have the necessary UEFA Pro license and has Angelo Gregucci therefore provided with a placeholder.

Donati's departure, however, has led to criticism of the sporting management. The coach was chosen in the summer based on an algorithm. Italian media were already mocking the idea that artificial intelligence hadn't yet taken over football.

At Empoli there is Alessio Dionisi also has a new coach. He knows the Tuscan club very well, having led the club to Serie A in 2021. Now he's tasked with getting things back on track. After being relegated last spring, Empoli are languishing in the lower midfield of the Serie B table with nine points from seven games.

Guido Pagliuca However, who was released by Empoli, is highly sought after by Spezia. The Ligurian club is said to have paid Luca D'Angelo It's only a matter of time. Spezia currently sits at the bottom of the Serie B table with three points. There could also be changes in Bari: Fabio Caserta is under heavy criticism after four defeats already.
