FCO fights against slump in form: "We stand together"

FC Obermais will host Treviso on Sunday (2:30 pm). The league leaders are arriving in Merano with a very strong squad. Nevertheless, the South Tyroleans are hoping for points, as FCO vice-captain Edoardo Ghiotti explains.

Edoardo Ghiotti is one of those players who found the transition to Serie D relatively easy. The 23-year-old, who was developed at Olimpia Meran and FC Südtirol, was able to immediately replicate his previous performances in Italy's fourth division. "I feel comfortable in Serie D," Ghiotti says with a smile, adding, "I'm just missing one more goal."

While left-back Ghiotti's primary responsibility isn't scoring, he has repeatedly drawn attention to himself in recent years with spectacular goals (including several direct free kicks). This season, his main focus has been on defense, partly due to Obermais' current form. They've only managed one point from their last five matches.

“Of course, we’re a bit disappointed at the moment, after all, we’ve dropped some points. Nevertheless, we’re sticking together, whether in the locker room or at training. Everyone is confident that we’ll soon be picking up more points again,” said Ghiotti. The Merano native is the team’s second captain behind Martin Ciaghi. But because the experienced midfielder doesn’t get much playing time, Ghiotti usually leads FCO onto the pitch as captain: “It’s a great honor. After all, we play in fantastic stadiums and against important clubs in Serie D.”

One of these clubs is Treviso, who will be coming to Lahn on Sunday as league leaders. (Click here for the team portrait)Ghiotti is aware of the supposed superiority of the Venetians, but emphasizes: "They are not in first place by chance, because they have very strong players. But it is also a long away trip for Treviso and anything can happen at home."
