This Obermais opponent dreams of the World Cup

On Sunday (15 p.m.), FC Obermais will face Mestre in the first Serie D home game in the club's history. The Venetians feature a striker who dreams of the 2026 World Cup in North America with his home country.

Mexico, Canada, and the USA will jointly host the 2026 FIFA World Cup next year. Mozambique, which is still in the race for qualification, could be among the Africans. The country recently beat Botswana 2-0, with Faisal Bangal among the goalscorers. The 30-year-old will be in action on Sunday at the Lahn River.

Bangal is Mestre's top striker. He missed the first match due to national team commitments, and his club drew 0-0. However, the former Atalanta youth player will be in the lineup against Obermais. In the World Cup qualifier against Botswana – played in front of 20.000 spectators – Bangal came on as a substitute after 68 minutes. Shortly afterwards, he scored the 2-0 goal for his country with his first notable action (71st minute). It was his first international goal in eight appearances.

As part of the second matchday of Serie D, Bangal travels to Merano with Mestre on Sunday. The former Serie C club is a tough prospect, as Mestre is one of the top contenders for the championship title. Incidentally, Lorenzo Melchiori, a true Bolzano native, is also on the Mestre squad. The former FCS player has been a regular in Serie D for years and is in his second year in the suburbs of Venice.
