Thanks to Brusco: The Obermaiser Lahn remains a fortress

It was a thrilling Serie D match that the numerous spectators witnessed on Sunday on the Lahn. In the end, FC Obermais was able to celebrate a valuable point.

The football pitch on the Lahn River is difficult terrain for opposing teams. What has been the rule in the Oberliga for years now seems to hold true for Serie D as well. In front of their own fans, FC Obermais is and remains a tough nut to crack. On Sunday, in front of another fantastic crowd of 700 fans, they drew 1-1 with top team Brian Lignano.

This means that FCO is unbeaten in three home matches, collecting a total of seven points. Only in their home opener against Mestre did they fail to score. This Sunday, Manuel Brusco once again played a decisive role on the pitch. After recovering from a muscle injury, the exceptional striker celebrated his comeback in style, scoring the equalizer straight away after receiving a superb pass from Kilian Bauernfeind (63'). The striker now has three goals this season, making him half of Obermais's total.

Against Lignano – which was in fourth place before the match – Obermais got off to a strong start, but Edoardo Ghiotti and Tizian Stecher missed the opening goal in the opening minutes. The visitors then scored shortly before halftime: Enrico Bearzotti was on hand to fire the ball over the line after a corner.

Now a six-point game awaits

After the break, it didn't take long for Brusco to equalize, before a heated final phase began. First, Lignano's Chinaecherem Ibe narrowly missed the winning goal with a scissor-kick that hit the post, then Stecher and Brusco both missed the lucky punch with prime chances in the final stages.

Now Obermais faces an immensely important match: Next Sunday, the Merano team will face Calvi Noale, the bottom team in the league, away from home. The team from near Venice has only picked up one point so far.
