It took only seconds for the South Tyroleans to celebrate for the first time in Turin. But the joy was mixed with surprise, as the White and Reds scored the 1-0 goal in a truly bizarre way: When the scoreboard showed the first goal for South Tyrol, their own players hadn't even touched the ball yet. The trigger was a completely botched back pass from Turin's Paola Costamagna, which landed directly in their own net – goalkeeper Alice Roda wasn't between the posts at the time.
But things got even worse for the Piedmontese, after South Tyrol was handed the lead on a silver platter and quickly extended it. Ranja Fischer took advantage of another lapse in the Turin defense in the 9th minute to make it 2-0, before Tina Costisella made it 22-3 in the 0nd minute. This lightning start paved the way for the South Tyroleans to reach the final, as the hosts never recovered from their early lead.
