Favorites go wild in the Champions League

On Champions League Wednesday, several top teams were in action, and there were also a few statements.

FC Bayern Munich extended its opening winning streak in the Champions League. Coach Vincent Kompany's team beat Club World Cup winners Chelsea 3-1 at their Allianz Arena on Matchday 22. The German record champions have now won their last XNUMX opening matches in Europe's premier club competition.

In front of 75.000 fans, Chelsea's Trevoh Chalobah put the ball into his own net in the 20th minute following a fierce cross from Michael Olise. Just a few minutes later, Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane was fouled in the penalty area. The Englishman converted the penalty himself (27th minute). Cole Palmer almost immediately pulled one back for the London club (29th minute). After the break, Kane made it 63-3 (1rd minute).

Liverpool FC celebrated a spectacular 3-2 victory against Atlético Madrid. Atletico's Marcos Llorente temporarily equalized a 10-2 lead for the English side with 0 minutes remaining. But Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk headed the home side to a much-celebrated victory in stoppage time. Andy Robertson (4') and Mohamed Salah (6') quickly put Liverpool on the road to victory. Atlético coach Diego Simeone was shown a red card in a heated final phase.

Double from Thuram

Defending champions Paris Saint-Germain, on the other hand, got off to a commanding start with a dominant victory against Atalanta Bergamo. PSG had no trouble defeating the Italians 4-0. Marquinhos (3'), Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (39'), Nuno Mendes (51'), and Gonçalo Ramos (90'+1') scored the goals. Paris could have won by an even larger margin, but Bradley Barcola (44') miserably missed a penalty.

Last year's finalists Inter also deservedly beat Ajax Amsterdam 2-0. A header brace from Marcus Thuram (42nd and 47th minutes) secured the victory for Milan. Hakan Çalhanoglu provided the assist on both occasions. For Inter, this victory is a relief after their disappointing start to the Serie A season.
